Life in Yichang, Life in CTGU
I am MD SAGAR MAHMUD, a student from 2016 Batch of MBBS in Medical College of CTGU. Right now I'm doing internship in Yichang Central People’s Hospital. I can still remember the day when I first came to China. The wind was touching my ears and I was feeling cold. I registered in CTGU the next day and my life in Yichang got started. New journey, new hope, new culture and new people. I prepared myself and was trying to adjust myself to the new environment. It was a good experience for me that I had my very first meal with some Chinese food. This was my first attempt to be familiar with the food and culture.

It was a great time while meeting some country mates and foreign friends here. We used to go to class together, take the lecture attentively and hangout after the class. The first semester was a bit easy and with short syllabus. We successfully passed all the exams and stepped into the winter vacation. Comparing the weather of my country Bangladesh, the winter in Yichang is much colder. For the first time I had the experience of minus temperature and honestly it was a bit difficult to attend the morning class. But soon I became very familiar with the weather.

Vacations are really long here. During the vacation we used to travel, cook food together with friends and also study the subjects of the upcoming semester so as to be well prepared. As you know, Yichang is a tourist city. We often visit different places like ‘Three Gorges Dam’, ‘San Xia Ren Jia’, ‘Three Gorges Water Fall’, ‘Yichang Olympic Stadium’, ‘Yichang Aquarium’, etc. The riverside is very beautiful, well decorated and the river water is very clean. We often visit the riverside and walk along the river. That’s really refreshing. Although it’s not possible to travel in another city after the COVID-19 outbreak but we still manage to hangout in different places of Yichang city. Besides, the university and the college also organize different sports and extra-curricular activities to make our vacation more colorful. We also have holidays in different Chinese cultural days like Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, National Day and so on. The biggest festival of foreign students in CTGU is the ‘Peace Blossom Festival’.

CTGU campus is beautiful. The main attraction of the campus is peach flower. During the spring our campus becomes full of flower. People from different places come to our campus to see the beauty and to take photos. Also in autumn all the leaves become yellow and start falling down, which look fantastic.

There are canteens in different student apartment area. These canteens offer a variety of food. They are very hygienic and well decorated. For Muslim students we also have a Muslim canteen which provides halal food. Besides, there are a lot of restaurants around the university. Among all these food, I like chicken hotpot, fish fry and cauliflower most. The food are unique and freshly served.

CTGU is a great place, it gives you the opportunity to be who you want to be. Myself I was not that serious about my study at the beginning of my CTGU journey. And I got a good lesson within a month and that was due to not attend morning class of Anatomy I Practical. I was disqualified and lost the chance to apply for scholarship in that academic year. I talked to my teacher David Sir regarding the matter and tears were dropping down. I was passing a hard time and it was pushing me to feel myself guilty. I was thinking why this happened to me but honestly that incidence changed my life. I became more serious about my study and attended all the classes attentively on time. After that incidence, I never got disqualified in my remaining study period. And this is how I become good at studying.

I always love to take opportunities and I was trying to be in the right trace by maintaining a good daily routine. To do that I became an assistant in the Student Management Office (SMO) in September 2018. This experience helped me to be more concentrated on my study and taught me a lot of extra-curricular skills. What's more, I have a better communication with my teachers then.
Coming to the academic teaching, the teachers are really friendly and the lectures are well prepared. I especially remember Yiling laoshi for teaching us Pathology in deep details. To make us understand the topic, our teachers never refuse to help us even we ask for explanations for a hundred times. The only thing we need to do is to be more serious and attentive in classes.

As you know I’m an internship student, I always go to the hospital before 7:50 am and attend the morning meeting every day. After that I take the round with the senior doctor and my in charge doctor. We do the physical examinations, read the reports and then think about the possible diagnosis. The teachers explain a lot and often ask questions to make us clearer about the diseases. After the round we often attend hospital teaching sessions with various topics. The teachers often call us to teach the different examination, sample collecting and treatment methods even in the off time. Most teachers are very caring and passionate to teach the students, we just need to have the interest to learn.

Yichang is a perfect city for me and studying in CTGU is colorful. I have a lovely environment and I also have great teachers to guide me in my path. I have come to the end of my story today, at last I would like to type down some suggestions for my juniors. Firstly, always keep in mind that you are here for your study, so study should be your first priority. Secondly, grab all the opportunities around you and make the proper use of the opportunities. Take your daily life in a perfect routine. This is the golden time of your life, set your goal, be sure about your desires, you can be whatever you want to be. I think, if you can’t see yourself who you want to be after graduation by closing your eyes, then you don’t have a goal. If you can see your desire position after graduation by closing your eyes, your goal is set, then you just need to do hard work for it. 加油吧,my joniors!!!
